"Must have app for summer 2011" - 411droid

Find Campgrounds, RV Parks and related services online or offline. See all places on the map view or look info up by type of location and by city. Includes a image search for campground photos. Everything from BLM camping to Walmart.

HOW MUCH DOES THIS APP SAVE YOU?

When you find out you can overnight in a nearby parking lot? Or by finding a nice forest site just 2 miles beyond the $40 park your book lists? Or finding a rest area or truck stop with a dump station? Or by not having to buy as many books year after year? How much do you save when you buy something that is never updated and then have to buy something else? The answer is much more than Camp & RV costs.

*CAMP & RV HAS 2 MODES:

-Map view: uses GPS and maps to plot up to 150 points at a time. Starting from your current location, you can zoom out and in or jump to anywhere in the USA and Canada. This mode shows everything. Filter the map to view only what you want: KOA, Rest stops with wifi, maybe REI stores or a particular brand of RV dealer. Don't RV? Filter the map to see only what you are looking for at the time.

-City lookup: View text info by state and city. Only looking for State Parks or Flying J truck stops? Do it all without internet service!

    WHAT'S IN IT:

    19,000 campgrounds: (US & Canada)
    KOA
    Private
    State Parks
    National Parks
    BLM
    National and State Forests
    Army Corps of Engineers
    Military famcamps
    County/City Parks
    Lodge Club Member parking
Even primitive hike-in/boat-in/rough road spots that other apps exclude. Every point has coordinates, address or directions and phone. 96% have amenities and official website links.

Expanded detail view lists amenities like open season, rate range, sites, hookups, amps, big rigs access, tents or no tents, club discounts (Good Sam, Camp Club USA, etc), water, toilets/restrooms, tables, pool, playground, laundry, propane, pet-friendly, RV dump station, age restricted, big rigs, boat launch, trails and internet access.

Note: I remove places that are are not overnight friendly. This is more common now and may explain why a place you know isn't in here.

*Walmart (with Parking or No Parking noted with frequent user reports.)

*Overnight Parking like casinos and other places.

*2,950 Truck Stops, if RV friendly, and what amenities are there.

*Outdoor Supply Stores (Camping World, REI, Cabelas, Gander Mtn, Dicks, Bass Pro Shops)

*1760 RV dealers and service places by brand

*RV Rental locations...just in case (Cruise America, Road Bear, El Monte)

*2,850 Rest Areas, Welcome centers, turn outs, service plazas, and scenic vistas broken down by heading. Shown by direction you are heading so you aren't looking for something you can't even access. Filter by RV dumps or wifi.

*Send in your own reports and corrections from each detail view.

    NO WIFI? NO SERVICE?

Parts of this app will always work and provide useful information. The data is stored on your phone while the app uses GPS, so constantly calling upon a website for information is not necessary. This is great for improving speed when you're in remote places. People don't camp in Central Park.

    BACKED UP

** This app is a full time project built for campers by a camper and not those developers who abandon apps. From http://www.allstays.com, providing camping data for over 10 years. There will be mistakes but they will be fixed. After ten years of working with campgrounds, I've heard about a few real nasty ones and left those out. This independent app does not feature or hide any place based on fees or corporate ties like others do. I provide information. You make the decision.

Don't take one more trip without Camp & RV, the ultimate outdoor travel app. Use the contact form in the app. Let me know what would make it even better for you. You will get a real reply and usually within a few hours.

** Cell service is required for full GPS functionality. Internet required for maps. App includes offline manual city look up mode.**

Changelog

  • iOS Database update - May 4, 2011

This is a great update with:
-rebuild and expansion of rest stops and truck stops
-about 650 added private, city and county campgrounds
-hundreds of Lodges where members can park
-all 1,100 CC USA club parks are now marked.
  • New for Version 3.6

-More data improvements and user reports. Added hundreds more campgrounds. Greatly expanded amenities for campgrounds.
    - Added locations for RV rentals companies Cruise America, El Monte and Road Bear RVs. Just in case you have a problem with a rental or need one to keep going on your trip.

  • New for Version 3.5

-Images. Ever wonder what a campground looks like as you do your research? Yes, the app links to the official website but the photos are many times either non-existing, too promotional or outdated. Well that challenge just got easier. Each campground now has a button for image search. You will get results from all over the internet. Because some campground names are similar, make sure to look closely at the results. They are sometimes mixed.
-First stage of county park campgrounds added back after verification. More will be coming over the next few weeks.
-New remote update function allowing for more frequent updates of the database. Your updates, reports and reviews will show up faster.
-Sams Club and Costco locations are back in the app after a glitch had them removed.

  • New for Version 3

    -Full iPad support
-Version 3.0 is a completely new version of the app for iPad, iPhone and iPods. It also is coming out on Android. The new version is built for all devices. Although certain features need GPS, the app still provides offline data and reference material at all times.
    -Canada: Over 2,000 places added.
-More data for stores that RVers tend to like and ask for: Sam's Club and Costco.
-LPG sellers. Some of these are public and some are restricted access. Check each point and call to ask.
-Smaller size means the app can be downloaded anywhere once again.

  • More Bulletins

County and city park update rolling out : Mar 18, 2011: With all the budget cuts lately in the United States, many have been closed. I am currently checking them all and am adding them back in now. It will be exciting to have all the great little known options in the app with accurate information. All should be in the app soon.

Database updates: Jan 31, 2011: With 3.5, the app will now check for new versions of the database at start up. When a new version is available, you have the option to update then. This new function allows me to update the app with the latest reports and information more often than in the past. Updates may take a couple minutes or more depending on your connection. I recommend waiting if you are in a remote location with poor internet service. The app won't fully update until you restart the app. On multitasking devices like the iPad, iPhone 3GS and 4 (version 4+), this means double tap home, hold for minus sign and exit the app. Then restart app. Or totally power off and restart device.

Android: Mar 13, 2011: This version has some code improvements that make the app run much faster, show more points on the map at one time and now uses the SD card for storage. Another big improvement will be coming late March.
